My grandmother has lived in my family home for the past two decades. Placement considers the quiet in her life and how different it would be if she still lived in Ethiopia. She doesn’t speak English. She doesn’t drive. She’s lives a stagnant life in the house, one that is very different than if she was in Ethiopia where she wouldn’t need assistance outside in her day to day life. I began to document her moments -- her housework, her belongings, her very self as I see her. Like Richard Avedon said, “My portraits are more about me than they are about the people I photograph.”
