tumblr post from October 1, 2014:
These are few of the 300+ photos, scans and negatives I’ve archived over the years for Untitled. My grandmother’s children were her entire world. My grandmother, my mother and her siblings went through so much but most of it was after the revolution, when most of them were already living outside of Ethiopia. Their actual childhood in Ethiopia, for the most part, was charmed. Filled with light, laughter and love. Then they became diaspora and had to pick up the pieces of lost loved ones from afar. The tragic definitely influences the narrative of this project but it would be a disservice, to me and to my mother’s family, to limit their experiences to only that.
